Key Takeaways
  • XRP surged 8.90% on Monday to $1.5363, part of the same broad market rally that lifted bitcoin above $87,000, but its actual peak for the week didn't come until Wednesday.

  • XRP completed a seven-year symmetric triangle chart pattern on Tuesday, reclaiming $1.60 for the first time since February 4.

  • XRP's ETFs went from a zero-flow day on Monday to four straight days of inflows (Tue-Fri), totalling $75.6 million, alongside whale wallets accumulating roughly 470 million XRP over the same stretch.

  • XRP closed Q3 up approximately 48.1%, its best third-quarter performance since 2022, though it still sits roughly 17% below where 2026 started.

  • The Batch V1.1 upgrade remains on track for a 29 September activation at 85.71% validator consensus, comfortably above the 80% threshold it needs to hold.

Ripple (XRP) closed last Sunday at around $1.41, and by Monday, it was up 8.90% at $1.5363. Bitcoin also surged on Monday, and at one point was trading as high as $87,400. XRP also outperformed the surge seen in ETH and SOL. XRP's best weekly performance actually occurred over the course of the week, between Monday and Wednesday. With that said, let's take a closer look at the week's events.

Monday, September 21: Surge and Zero-Flow ETF day

XRP surged 8.90% and touched an intraday high of $1.5731. Monday was an interesting day for XRP as its ETFs recorded zero fund flows. Fund flows had been quiet for several days prior, with Wednesday, September 16, the last day that XRP-related ETFs recorded a net inflow.

Tuesday, September 22: Retaking the $1.60 Handle

XRP added 2.36% on Tuesday, pushing the price to an intraday high of $1.6071. The high had not been seen since February 4. Analysts also noted that XRP completed a seven-year symmetrical triangle pattern, one that had been building since XRP's 2018 peak near $3.31 through its August 2026 retest near $0.98, and was ready for a large move.

Wednesday, September 23: high of the week for XRP, then a reversal

Bulls pushed XRP up to a high of the week at $1.6556 on Wednesday only to see it reverse, sending it plunging 4.54% to $1.5011. For the day, it would move roughly 9% from its high to its close. ETFs continued to buy XRP, with inflows for the day reaching $18.04 million.

ETFs and Whale accumulation for XRP join forces Thursday.

XRP continued its appreciation, gaining an additional 2.21% to $1.53. ETFs extended their buying streak for a third day in a row, with inflows for the day reaching $14.89 million. Buying on the open market also continued, with the XRP ledger adding 11,432 accounts on the day, more than 3 times its average. Analysts attributed the spike to institutions preparing for upcoming software upgrades. Additional reports stated that whale accounts had also bought 470 million XRP over the previous 5 days.

Best ETF day of the week continues Friday.

Fourth day in a row that the ETFs pulled in strong inflows, this time to the tune of $22.65 million, the best day of the week. XRP appreciated another 2.24% for the day to $1.5687. Across the four days from Tuesday through Friday, a total of $75.6 million had been pulled into the ETFs.

          26-27 September

The price of XRP fell over the weekend to close at $1.5276 on Saturday, down 2.62% from the previous day. The lowest it went was $1.5030 on Saturday. On Sunday, it went down again to $1.5221, down 0.36%. Despite the pullback, XRP closed the quarter up approximately 48.1%, its best third-quarter performance since 2022, though it still sits roughly 17% below where 2026 started. Separately, 13F filings reportedly showed Goldman Sachs now holding the largest named position among XRP ETF investors, worth approximately $87.4 million.

The status of the Batch V1.1 upgrade

Batch V1.1 of the XRP Ledger is at 85.71% consensus among the validators and is continuing to count down. It takes a consensus of at least 80% of the validators to complete an upgrade. It is expected that on September 29 at 14:06 UTC it will complete the upgrade, assuming support does not fall below 80% before then. Simplifying the management of multi-account treasuries is the goal of PermissionDelegationV1_1. It is expected to follow roughly a week after Batch V1.1, around October 5.

          What It Means

$1.4052, the price on Monday before the rally started, is this week's low. $1.6556 from Wednesday is the high for this week. Compared to bitcoin and ether, which both made their weekly highs on Monday, and solana, which made its high on Friday, XRP's peak fell in the middle of the week, on Wednesday. XRP now sits just below its 50-week moving average of $1.56, itself below the week's high, a level where holders from the past year remain roughly 12% underwater and may look to sell into strength. In general, this week's combination of a completed seven-year chart pattern, an ETF flow reversal, whale accumulation, and Goldman Sachs' disclosed position gives XRP a broader institutional story than can be said for most other cryptocurrencies this week. Compared to where Wednesday's high was, this week's close was less bullish.
