Key Takeaways
  • Ether has gained almost 5% to trade at $2,776 on Monday with an intraday high of $2,806. The price move is in line with the broader recovery in the market that took bitcoin above $87,000.

  • ETH has been struggling to break above the $2,800 handle throughout the week with a high of $2,806 on Monday and $2,789 on Wednesday.

  • ETFs tracking ETH saw inflows for five days in a row from Monday to Friday with a total of $689.8 million. Daily inflows declined from $270 million to $66.1 million.

  • Wednesday was not the lowest ETH has traded this week. Thursday's low of $2,629.54 was the true low for this week.

  • Ether has been fairly flat this week, closing little changed from Monday to Sunday, while dealing with the Iran related volatility affecting Bitcoin over the same stretch.

Ethereum's Week. A $2,800 Rejection, Five Straight Days of ETF Inflows, and a Quiet Quarter-End

Ether closed at $2,645 on Sunday. On Monday it rose as high as $2,806 and finished at $2,776, a gain of 4.96%. Ether has tested this level several times over the past two weeks without a convincing close above it. Ether later pulled back and closed between $2,690 and $2,710.

Ether's price was $2,645 on Monday morning. It rose to as high as $2,806 where it encountered a sell wall. It eventually closed at $2,776. Ether's gain on Monday was driven mainly by the broader gains in the market and the ongoing short squeeze and the momentum in Bitcoin and ETFs.

BlackRock's ETHA entered the week strong at $110.1 million, bringing total ETF inflows to $270 million on Monday. Ether later pulled back from its highs and closed the week below $2,800. Ether consolidated between $2,716 and $2,777 on Tuesday.

Ether tested $2,800 again on Wednesday before selling pressure set in and Ether ultimately closed 2.5% lower at $2,685. Ether later recovered some of its losses. Combined ETF inflows totaled $104.5 million for the day.

Low of the week: Thursday, 24 September

Ether fell slightly to $2,688 on Thursday, but hit a low of $2,629.54, which was the lowest price of the week. Ether also saw an inflow of $66.1 million on Thursday, which was the smallest of the inflows this week. Inflows have been positive throughout the week, though shrinking each day since Monday.

Holding Near $2,690: Friday, 25 September

Ether slightly increased to $2,692 on Friday. Higher U.S. Treasury yields added a layer of macro pressure to the day. The Ether fund had an inflow of $87 million, continuing its streak of positive inflows into a fifth straight day.

Ether continued sideways trading over the weekend, closing at $2,697 on Saturday and $2,706 on Sunday. Bitcoin was less calm over the same weekend, with a pump and subsequent dip caused by the news about Iran. The chart reinforced the $2,800 level as the important level for Ether to watch.

          What it Means

Thursday's low of $2,629.54 is the low for the week, more so than the low from Wednesday. ETH broke down harder on Wednesday than on any other day this week, but the intraday low on Thursday took the weekly honors. Monday's high of $2,805.72 is the high of the week and has been tested numerous times. So far this week, ETH has been unsuccessful at breaking and closing above $2,800. ETH's ETFs saw demand every day this week, taking in a combined $689.8 million, even as the token itself round-tripped from Monday's $2,776 close down to Wednesday's $2,685 and back to $2,706 by Sunday, essentially flat for the week overall. Throughout the week, the price of ETH was volatile, trading as low as $2,629.54 and as high as $2,805.72. Despite that volatility, the flow of capital into ETH had been in favor of the buyers every single trading day. As of now, ETH is range bound between $2,690 and $2,780, and is awaiting outside forces to help make the next major move.
